Planning for a Year Without Burnout

Wow, we just had our Annual Awards Ceremony and we are gearing up for another school year again! We are with our children 24/7. With high expectations on their learning and with so many choices it can be hard to decide what to do. Sometimes over-commitment seeps in and we are unable to meet all the demands. This is when self-care is so important. The Word of God says that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. How have you loved yourself today? Did you take a nap? Did you do a favorite activity?

As we start planning for 2016 - 2017 don't forget to plan time for renewal.
South Cobb Homeschoolers (a member of EPIC HOMESCHOOL NETWORK, INC.) will host a Mom's Night In on Thursday, August 11 at 6:30 p.m. for more details and to sign up please click here http://goo.gl/forms/tpkWiTEw9mcSTWOb2 .

So how do you plan for a year without burnout? First, plan time for yourself (i.e. Mom's Night Out). Second, evaluate your activities and eliminate those activities that don't add long-term value to you and your family. Third, get comfortable with saying no to the good so you can say yes to the best. There's a book called "Yes to the Best" and I must admit that I struggle in this area. Satan will tempt you with good things to distract you from the best things. Keep your eyes fixed on the best! Fourth, don't compare yourself or your children to others. Finally, remember that you home school. What makes homeschooling special is the freedom students have to learn and thrive in a nurturing environment. When you see that environment shifting, take a step back and remember that you home school.

Online Schools

This is an exciting year for education as parents have more options when it comes to choosing K-12 education avenues for their children. Knowing families are faced with identifying the best educational route to take, OnlineSchools.org has created a guide for K-12 online education options. Much has been written about online college education, but online elementary, middle and high school courses are growing in popularity and practicality, especially given the tech-based society we live in. The K-12 resources listed below walk families through the how, the why and where, and answer common questions.

You can see the entire guide along with some of its features here:
